Perennial flower. Grown best in full sun, will also grow in partial sun or light shade. Best to plant them against a fence, or something to lean against from the wind. Sow your seeds in the Fall so your seeds can harden over the cold winter to germinate, leave it and water when Spring/Summer comes; need also bright light. Space the plants about 12-18 inches apart. Scatter seeds on top of soil and lightly cover with soil (optional). Prefer rich, well drained, moist soil. Most grows to 8-10 feet tall. Cut back some leaves to air out at the base and to water at the base. They bloom in their second year, some even in their third year’s. Hollyhocks do cross pollinate. Bees change the color of your hollyhock, so some times you don’t always get the color you start out with. From my experience, once the flowers are past their prime, you cut back some stalks on a plant and new shoots emerge quicker from underground when they return the next year. You can cut all stalks off but new shoots emerge (June 1, 2024) much slower than when you just cut some stalks off and it may not all come back, a few of mine didn’t come back. This will prevent seed heads from forming and reseeding. The ones that did return, they’re in their fourth year. ***Seeds are shell on and loose seeds*** Colors are: Orangey with yellowy centre- 10 grams for $5, see picture #2 & #3 Peachy pink- 10 grams for $5, see picture #2 & #3 Light pink- 10 grams for $5, see picture #2 & #3 Neon green- 10 grams for $5, see picture #2 & #3 Mauve pink- 10 grams for $5, see picture #2 & #3 Pinkish purpley red- 6 grams bag, $4 each, see picture #7 & #8 White- 4 grams bag, $3 each, see picture #4.
